In a time where the political divides are more and more severe, what does the political atmosphere look like at Knox College? Which party are students voting for, and what is the voting participation rate like on campus?
In order to seek that answer, TKS conducted a poll across campus. We interviewed thirty students that are mostly evenly split between each year (9 seniors, 6 Juniors, 8 sophomores and 7 first-years), and included more than ten majors. The poll was conducted at several locations throughout campus, including the Whitcomb Art Center, Alumni Hall, Hard Knox Cafe, Gizmo, Umbeck Science and Mathematics Center, and Post Lobby.
In the results, we found the majority support the Democrat Party, with seventeen in total stating that they have decided to vote for the democratic party in the federal election. Five people have stated they are undecided in their decision to vote for any party. Three participants stated that they are voting for third party candidates or independent candidates.
Four people also stated that they will not be voting, the reason being all of them are international students, therefore ineligible to vote.
No one we interviewed stated they are voting for the Republican party.
