Kim Schrader embarks on retirement following 27 years of service with Knox College at the end of this academic year. Most of the Knox community knows her as the college’s Title IX Coordinator, but she has filled many roles on campus over the years.
Schrader has worked for the office of admission, as the Assistant to the Athletic Director, as Operations Director for Budget and Compliance in athletics, Head Volleyball Coach, Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach, Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Advisor, Head Swimming and Diving Coach, and Sports Event Coordinator.
The Title IX Coordinator position is federally funded and is responsible for ensuring the College’s full compliance with regulations regarding sex-based discrimination. The staff member is also in charge of supporting students, faculty, and staff.
As the college is legally required to have a title IX coordinator, the search for a new one has already begun.
The US department of education released updated policies on hiring and regulations including a broader definition of sexual harassment on April 19, 2024. The regulations are effective Aug. 1, 2024.
Equity and inclusion are some of Knox’s values, and Schrader will be leading the search for a new coordinator in accordance with the new regulations and feedback from the Knox community.
A search committee has been set up to fill the position which includes students, faculty, staff, and trustees who are developing a job description, setting criteria, and will review applicants.
As per the president’s office, an announcement including the committee membership and next steps is scheduled for later this week.
According to Vice President for Strategic Initiatives and Chief of Staff Heather Bumps, Knox College hopes to educate students on the matter. They look to help create an environment free from acts of sexual harassment, violence, and discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity, and pregnancy.
The college aims to have the title IX coordinator position filled by the end of June 2024.
