It appears that an anonymous student is displeased with the Student Senate. Jan. 22, a Monday night, President of Student Senate Sikander Mateen walked into the Student Senate office to find furniture thrown across the floor.
“It was just kind of, you know, all over the place. There were chairs everywhere, one was even on the table with a face drawn on it,” Mateen said. “So I sent a message in the group just being like, listen, why has this happened?”
Along with the mess, someone had torn up a carton and pinned it to the office’s chalkboard. According to Mateen, it read: “You are all slobs and the president sucks”.
The Student Senate office is typically locked and only accessible with keys. Mateen suspects that a member might have accidentally left the door open.
“No one had been in the office since Friday, which was our last exec meeting,” Mateen said. “So we didn’t really know; it could have happened anytime between Friday and Monday night.”
Mateen expressed that if someone has a problem with the way the Senate runs, it would be more productive if they came to a meeting to discuss it.
“This isn’t the first time someone has shown they don’t really like us,” he said. “If someone has the time and effort to do all of this, they should really just come to us and tell us what the issue is, maybe we could try to solve it.”
