Chief of Staff and Vice President for Strategic Initiatives Heather Bumps released the internal and external Title IX reports that took place over Spring Term.
The external review team was made up of three people: Murphie Chappell, a Title IX Coordinator, Angela Shambarger, a Director of the Office of Title IX and Civil Rights Compliance and Title IX Coordinator, and Amanda Walsh, the Deputy Director of External Affairs for the Victim Rights Law Center.
The review was prompted after a student protest about the college’s handling of sexual assualt allegations.
Their review was sixteen pages in length, and touched on many aspects of Title IX at Knox College. These included transparency, training and education, prevention/culture of care, and support. After each topic, the reviewers gave suggestions for ways to improve any issues, as well as referencing other communities that had successful examples of how to handle relevant issues.
Some of the reviewers’ recommendations included clarifying the language regarding Title IX policies, providing more training opportunities to students, faculty, and staff, and clearly explaining the support offered by the Title IX office.
Now that the internal and external reviews have been completed, Knox College has this summer to begin to make the changes suggested in the reports.
