Covid-19 at Knox College is on a rise yet again, with a steep spike in cases over the past two weeks. However, since fall term 2023, Knox College’s Covid-19 policies are less strict.
Open campus spaces have an optional mask policy. Symptomatic testing through antigen home tests are also available free of cost.
Influenza A or B have not been detected on campus so far, and Campus Health Services does not provide testing for Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV). Influenza shots and Covid-19 booster shots are available at the Health Center, and recommended as they effectively reduce the severity of symptoms.
Students who test positive for Covid-19 are to be isolated according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines. They should contact [email protected] and get in contact with a nurse who will determine their isolation period based on when their symptoms started.
“It is anticipated that we are going to see a rise in respiratory illnesses during the winter months due to viruses spreading easier in small, indoor spaces and cold temperatures can slow the immune system. The cases of respiratory illnesses that we are seeing on campus are similar to community transmission rates,” Director of Health Services Kristin Wight said.
“Health Services is recommending that students stay up to date on their yearly influenza vaccine and Covid-19 boosters,” Wight added.
Due to the significant spread of the virus, cautionary practices like wearing masks, repeated use of sanitizer, and social distancing are recommended.
