This poll has ended.

Student Senate recently passed a bylaw requiring a club representative at senate meetings. They have since paused the bylaw. Are you in favor of it?

President Afolabi: Mujtaba Hassan CARES

Editorial Note: TKS is open to accepting submissions advocating any position regarding the Student Senate elections.

In case you don’t know me, my name is Oluwabamise Afolabi, Knox College’s Student Senate President.

I want to take the time to tell you about Mujtaba Hassan, the current Diversity Chair of the Student Senate who is running for the position of the Student Senate President for the 2021-2022 academic year. Mujtaba is quiet, so no surprise if some of you may not recognize him. However, after working with him on many occasions — especially in his role as Diversity Chair during this academic year — I can tell you that Mujtaba is passionate about Knox. His drive and dedication to his work were what prompted him to push for Senate’s Diversity and Leadership training, an idea that has only been in conversation for a long time. Mujtaba saw that this idea materialized and we are hoping to institutionalize it as our Constitution and By-Laws revision season rolls around the corner. Also, Mujtaba has been working closely with the Communications Office and HOPE Center to push for better communication through diversity and initiatives on social media, some of which will be unveiled soon.

After almost two terms in his position, there is no one that I think will better fill this position than Mujtaba Hassan. He is compassionate, thoughtful, deliberate, and receptive. He will challenge the status quo to ensure that the concerns and needs of the wonderful students of this institution are heard and met.

Like Mujtaba, the incoming Senate Executive Board will need your help and support. I hope that you will give them more overwhelming support and enthusiasm than I have enjoyed so far in this role.

Wishing everyone a successful remainder of the term!

Oluwabamise Afolabi,

Student Senate President
