On Jan. 28 of this year, former Knox College standout athlete Todd Monken was hired by the Cleveland Browns as their head coach. Monken has coached for over 35 years, with experience both in college and as an offensive coordinator in the National Football League (NFL).
According to the Knox-Lombard Athletic Hall of Fame, Monken was quite the athlete during his time here. Before successes, including national championships with the University of Georgia and playoff appearances as the offensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens, Monken earned All-American honors in 1988 while leading the nation in pass attempts, pass completions, and pass completion percentage. He still holds eight Knox football records.
Monken graduated from Knox with a master’s degree and began his coaching career shortly thereafter. He has remained closely connected to the Prairie Fire football program, frequently attending and participating in program events.
In a press release conducted by Knox College Media Specialist Scott Holland and the Office of Communications, Athletic Director Justin Newell highlighted Monken’s achievements and impact.
“Todd’s journey reflects what Knox has always been about, developing people with confidence and preparing them to lead at the highest levels. We are proud of his accomplishments and equally excited about what his story represents for our current and future Prairie Fire,” Newell said.
Most recently, Monken served as the Baltimore Ravens’ offensive coordinator from 2023 to 2025. The Baltimore Ravens had the number one offense in the NFL in 2023. In the same press release, the Cleveland Browns’ managing and principal partners stated that they are excited to see him establish a winning culture and bring the team the victories that their fans are looking for.
