If you’re searching for a nearby cozy spot to satisfy your Mexican food cravings, look no further than Little Mexico (164 S Academy St). This local restaurant offers flavorful and comforting dishes with plenty of options for vegetarians.
Since attending the restaurant’s grand opening on Feb. 14, I have been on a mission to try each dish from the vegetarian menu. Through multiple visits, both dine-in and take-out, I have been able to evaluate the overall quality and presentation of these dishes.
After being seated, guests are provided complimentary chips and salsa. The chips arrive warm and fresh, with just the right amount of salt, and the salsa is tasty but mild.

On my first visit, I ordered the green cheese enchiladas with a horchata. The plate consists of three cheese-stuffed enchiladas topped with a choice of red or green sauce and served with rice and beans.
The dish I ordered had bright green sauce spread over it and neatly plated sides, making it visually appealing. While the enchiladas were rich and comforting, I found myself wishing the green sauce had a bit more spice.
Still, the dish delivered on flavor, especially when paired with the well-prepared rice and beans. The beans, topped with melted cheese and carrying a subtle hint of lime, were a standout. And the horchata? Sweet, creamy, and refreshing!

Curious to compare sauces, I returned another day and ordered take-out. This time, I ordered the red cheese enchiladas and, of course, another horchata. The red sauce was delicious. The enchiladas were soft and warm. Moreover, there was a good quality and portion size, even in take-out form.
Most recently, I dined in to try the chile rellenos, which consist of two green chile peppers stuffed with cheese, coated in egg, served with rice and beans, and your choice of flour or corn tortillas.
This dish felt especially memorable. The peppers were tender, the egg coating light and fluffy, and the melted cheese inside created a comforting richness. They even reminded me of my mom’s chile rellenos, which is a high compliment.

Overall, Little Mexico delivered satisfying portions and delicious comfort food. The consistency, presentation, and vegetarian-friendly menu make this restaurant a must-visit for students searching for a tasty meal close to campus.
I look forward to continuing to explore the menu, especially the four cheese flautas, served with rice, beans, and a small salad on the side. I have a feeling my “mission” will continue to be deliciously rewarding.
