Knox sports breakdown for the competing sports this term

Softball

On April 12, the Prairie Fire took on heated rival, Monmouth. Knox lost 10-2 against Monmouth in the first game of a double header. Casey Hipp, senior, had an RBI for the Prairie Fire. Haylee Carpenter, freshman, provided an RBI. In the second game, Knox lost 5-3. Hipp finished with three RBIs. Mady Ferris, senior, scored two runs. 

Track and Field

The Track and Field team competed Friday, April 16, at Beloit College. Lydia Mitchell, junior, finished first in the women’s 400m, and she finished third in the 200m. Derrick Jackson, junior, took home first place in the men’s 100m with a time of 10.79. Thao Luong, sophomore, finished first in the women’s high jump. Alex Baker, senior, finished first in the men’s pole vault. Saxon Alvarez, sophomore placed first in the women’s 300m steeplechase. Charles Broomfield, junior, finished first in the men’s shot put.

Men’s Golf

The Prairie Fire picked up a second, third, and seventh-placed finish. Elliot Bainbridge, senior, finished fourth overall with a score of 75. The next competition is April 17 at Lake Forest College. 

Women’s Golf

The women’s team competed at Monmouth on Sunday. Knox placed second with a score of 488. 

Women’s Soccer

In the first game of the season, Women’s Soccer beat Illinois College 6-0 on April 11. Lydia Mitchell, junior, tied for the Knox lead in goals with two. Michelle Thawley, junior, also scored two goals. 

Men’s Soccer

Knox’s men’s team opened the season on March 24 against Illinois College. The Prairie Fire won their first match of the season, winning 2-0. Seniors Alessandro Benelli and Raph Adeyemi chipped in a goal apiece for the Prairie Fire. In the rematch on March 27, Knox prevailed in a 3-0 victory. Seniors Joey Dorgan and Adeyemi each scored a goal. Ashton Zeringue, junior, chipped in his first goal of the season.
